Eating the rainbow has always been important to be healthy. An antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules. Adding antioxidant rich foods to your diet every day will strengthen your ability to fight infection and disease.
So eating a rainbow of antioxidants daily offers much needed help in counteracting the damage done by a poor junk food diet, taking medications, smoking, toxicity or chemical exposure and high amounts of stress. Antioxidants are precious substances that also protect against cancer and have health benefits such as:
- Slowing down signs of aging in skin, eyes, tissue, joints, heart and brain
- Promoting healthier, more youthful, glowing skin
- Detoxification support
- Longer life span
- Protection against heart disease and stroke
- Less risk of cognitive problems, such as dementia
- Reduced risk of vision loss or disorders like macular degeneration and cataracts
You don't have to be an expert to learn which foods contain antioxidants, there is a very simple guideline:
If its fresh and colourful , it contains antioxidants!
Generally the darker the colour the higher the concentration of antioxidants . Eating a variety of fruit and vegetables is also key to good health - lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber only will not serve you nearly as well as eating seasonal and different types as often as possible. We also know from the Placebo Diet programmes that variety is also good for your gut health which plays a key role in supporting and improving your immune system, balancing hormone
levels, increasing energy and aiding weight loss.
On the January Reset I set a challenge to the participants for the most varieties of vegetables in one meal and one participant achieved 16 - JUST AMAZING!
So in these coming weeks as we move out of lockdown - try focusing on your nutrition and a tip top immune system. Aim for 9 - 12 portions of fruit and vegetables per day. One or two portions of each colour per day is a good goal to strive for, in a ratio of three vegetables to one fruit.
Get your nutritional health right back on track with the Placebo Diet March Reset - there are just 3 places remaining and we start this coming Monday with a preparation week.
