Hello There,
... and suddenly its almost time for the London Marathon. The worlds most iconic 26.2 mile event. An event that inspires the masses attracting world class competitors, aspiring club runners, joggers, and walkers from all walks of life. Running for the glory, the challenge, the discipline, many with the added motivation and determination to raise money for charities and good
causes. A day when the great and the good come together not just in London but all over the country to complete what they set out to do, after months of training physically and indeed mentally for the event. Those of us from the Lindsey Fitness Running Club taking part this year are delighted to have finished our long run training of 22 miles last Sunday and are now tapering and fully focused on our finishing lines in the Reverse London and My Way events on April 26th.There is still time
to sponsor us as we raise funds through our efforts for the Isabel Hospice.
The sneezy season has arrived for many including me, although I am lucky it is usually mild and short lived. So this weeks Health Matters touches on Hay fever, and some suggestions for natural remedies to heal ease symptoms.
A Zesty Quinoa recipe to try in Food Matters that uses ingredients that may also help at this tie of
year.
I am writing this newsletter whist having our small garden tidied and planted up by Matt Livingstone from LivingScapes . I have left his contact details in the newsletter again this week if your garden needs some TLC too.
Have a beautiful week and I'll see you in classes and online.

Ahhhh.... tishoo , Bless You!
Ah, seasonal hay fever. That unwelcome visitor that turns up every spring and summer, making us sneeze and our eyes water. If you're like me, you know the drill all too well. I'm lucky that I only experience it early in the season for a few weeks each year and quite mildly. But don’t worry, you’re not alone, and there are natural ways to tackle this.
First, let’s understand what’s happening. Hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, is your body's reaction to pollen from trees, grass, and weeds. When these tiny particles make their way into our noses, our immune system mistakenly sees them as threats. It goes into overdrive, releasing chemicals like histamine, which cause those annoying symptoms.
There are plenty of over the counter remedies to take, but we can take
on hay fever with some simple, natural remedies too.
1. Local Honey: Nature’s Sweet Medicine
Have you ever heard about the wonders of local honey? By consuming honey from your area, you might help your body build up a tolerance to the local pollen. It’s like a sweet little vaccine. Try adding a spoonful to your morning tea or drizzle it over your oatmeal. It’s delicious and
potentially a game-changer.
2. Quercetin: The Natural Antihistamine
Quercetin is a plant pigment found in many fruits and vegetables. It's a natural antihistamine, meaning it can help reduce those irritating symptoms. You’ll find it in apples, berries, and even in red onions. So, why not toss a few extra slices of apple into your salad or enjoy a
berry smoothie? Your body might just thank you.
3. Nettle Leaf: The Herbal Ally
Nettle leaf has been used for centuries to treat allergies. It’s a natural antihistamine that can help reduce inflammation. You can find nettle leaf in tea form or as a supplement. A warm cup of nettle tea might just be the soothing relief you need on a high-pollen day.
4. Saline Nasal Rinse: Clear the Way
Flushing out your nasal passages with a saline rinse can help remove pollen and reduce congestion.
5. Probiotics: Boost Your Gut Health
Did you know that a healthy gut can help manage allergies? Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can support your immune system. You can find them in yogurt, kefir, kombucha or as supplements. Adding a bit of probiotic goodness to your diet might help keep those symptoms at
bay.
6. Essential Oils: Aromatherapy Aid
Essential oils like peppermint and eucalyptus can help open up your airways. Try diffusing them in your home or adding a few drops to a warm bath. The refreshing scent can be both calming and invigorating.
Remember, while these natural remedies can be helpful, it’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if your symptoms are severe. With a few simple changes, we can maybe make hay fever season a little less of a nuisance.
We are primed and ready following our final long distance training last weekend. we ran and 'or walked 22 miles last Sunday supported on route by LFRC memmbers and our magnificent car support team. The weather proved just perfect , not too warm, cold or windy and the rain stayed away. Just hoping for the same next week on Marathon Day April 26th.
Lindsey Fitness Running Club members Marie and Jos will be taking part in the Reverse London Marathon - starting at midnight and through the early hours of Marathon day.. They will start in the Mall and run the iconic 26.2 mile course in reverse. Then myself and Jade along with Jackie and friends will run and walk 26.2 miles around Hertfordshire. We will submit
our times for verification in order to receive our official medals.
Our fundraising stands a fort £342 of our £500 target our wonderful Isabel Hospice - Your Hospice too!.. Thank you for all those who have donated. If you would like to make a small donatiojn please do soon the following link .... a heartfelt thank you from us all xxx
Make the Dressing:In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, honey, and minced garlic. This zesty
mix not only adds flavour but also packs a punch with vitamin C and natural anti-inflammatory properties.
Mix the Veggies: In a large bowl, combine the quinoa, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red onion, parsley, and mint. These fresh ingredients are known for their anti-inflammatory benefits and can help soothe your symptoms.
Add the Crunch: Toss in the pumpkin seeds and
walnuts. These little powerhouses are full of nutrients that may help reduce inflammation and boost your immune system.
Dress It Up: Pour the dressing over the salad and toss everything together until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve: You can serve this salad immediately or let it chill in the fridge for a bit. It’s perfect for a light lunch or a
side dish.-ENJOY!
This salad is not just a treat for your taste buds but also a supportive ally in your fight against hayfever. Remember, while food can be a great help, it's always good to consult with a healthcare professional if your symptoms persist. Enjoy this vibrant dish and feel good knowing you're doing something positive for your health!
