HELPING MATTERS - Volunteers Required!
A request to you or someone you know please. I have taught a seated exercise session at the
Welwyn/Hatfield/StAlbans branch of Parkinson's UK for almost 10 years now - even through the lockdown online.
It's s a class I really enjoy teaching, not least because of all the lovely people I get to spend time with but also because of the difference I know it makes to them. I teach an exercise session every 2 weeks through out the year.
The group meet every week and in-between the exercise weeks with me, the committee work hard to arrange a variety of talks, music groups, trips, activities and demonstrations. for their members along with their partners/ carers. They are a very sociable and happy group despite the enduring spectre of Parkinson's and all it brings to those affected.
Each session finishes with coffee, tea and biscuits and the time to chat and support each other in an understanding environment which is so very important to them all carers and sufferers alike.
The dilemma and my reason for writing
this article is the committee themselves are becoming increasing frail with age themselves and in order that the group may continue to run on the weeks I'm not there, volunteers to help are desperately needed ASAP.
They urgently need help on a Thursday afternoon to set the chairs and tables out, and to make and serve the teas and coffees at each
session. It wouldn't be every week and with enough volunteers it can be rotated. The group runs 2pm -4pm at the Parish Centre, Hall Grove , Welwyn Garden City AL7 4PJ.
You would need to arrive a little earlier to help set the chairs and tables out for the session that day. You would of course be able to enjoy and partake in any of the sessions - even my
exercise!
If you are someone you know maybe could offer your time for this wonderful group, I promise you would enjoy the interaction, but also playing a part in keeping this vitally important service to some amazing people going.
Thank you for reading this, if you or someone you know can help and are interested in finding out more please contact the group Chairman Les Page.
