Lindsey Fitness Newsletter
Hello,
October has arrived with a blast it seems! I hope you are all safe and well after storm Amy flew in.
Along with some beautiful autumn colours materialising, and cooler mornings, we should have a renewed focus on health and community. I hope you’re feeling energised as we settle into the season— I'll be back from Spain tomorrow afternoon and raring to go with the full
timetable of classes, starting on Saturday morning at Monks Walk. We've been enjoying either a 4 mile run or HiiT and weights session most days here in L'Escala in the absence of suitable paddleboarding conditions, so that will have to wait until next year now,
I am so looking forward to seeing you back at classes, please ensure to book your sessions in advance as normal.
This month holds special significance as it’s Breast Cancer Awareness
Month. It’s a time to remind ourselves (and those we love), men and women, about the importance of regular checks and early action. With that in mind, this week’s newsletter is dedicated to understanding how to check your breast health according to the latest NHS guidelines. There’s also a delicious, nutrient-packed recipe in Food Matters, plus all the usual class, running club, and celebrant updates.

Health Matters: NHS Guidelines for Checking Breast Health
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a perfect prompt to look after our health and encourage those around us to do the same. Did you know that 1 in 7 women in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? Early detection is so important, and knowing how to check your breasts properly could make all the difference.
What should you look
for?
A change in the size, shape, or feel of a breast
Any lump or thickening that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue
Redness, rash, or skin changes such as puckering or dimpling
Changes to the nipple (e.g., becoming pulled in, a change in position, or discharge)
Pain in your breast or armpit that’s there all or most of the time
How to check:
Check regularly—ideally once a month
Look at your breasts in the mirror with arms by your side and then raised
Feel each breast and armpit, up to your collarbone, using a flat hand and gentle pressure
Do this lying down and standing up, as some changes are easier to feel in different positions
It’s completely normal for
breasts to feel lumpy or change at different times of the month, especially around your period or menopause. The key is to get to know what’s normal for you—so you can spot anything unusual quickly.
If you notice any changes, don’t panic—most breast changes aren’t cancer. But always get checked by your GP, just to be safe.

Eating well supports your immune system and overall health, which is especially important as we head into colder months. This week’s recipe is packed with colour, fibre, and plant-based protein—perfect for lunch or a light dinner after class!
Ingredients (serves 2):
1 medium sweet potato, cubed
1 red onion, cut into wedges
1 courgette, sliced
1 red pepper, chopped
1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp smoked paprika
Salt & pepper
2 large handfuls baby spinach or rocket
Juice of 1 lemon
2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 200°C (fan 180°C).
Toss sweet potato, onion, courgette, and pepper with olive
oil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Spread on a baking tray and roast for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway.
Add chickpeas for the last 10 minutes to warm through.
Once roasted, toss with spinach/rocket and lemon juice. Sprinkle with pumpkin seeds to serve.
Bright, filling, and loaded with nutrients—ENJOY!
