Hello There, Have you had the sneezes this week? I have, apparently this might be because its the start of the grass pollen season. Whilst I don't suffer the sometimes debilitating symptoms of hay fever, many do and it can be quite miserable for them. Read this weeks spotlight on Hay Fever and some natural remedies to help ease the symptoms. Interestingly
probiotics can help symptoms and you know I am a great advocate of that for good gut health and supporting the immune system. Hopefully my kombucha and kefir intake is helping to keep the more intense hay fever symptoms at bay . I have also included details for sourcing a local honey supplier which can also help and a delicious hay fever relief smoothie, full of goodness even if you are not a hay fever
sufferer. A reminder that I will be taking some holiday soon. So whilst the normal timetable of classes for members is paused. Monthly paying members will have unlimited access to the Summer Online library of video workouts and lookout for some LIVE Holiday 'Shorts' from Spain too!
Have a great week and I'll see you online and in classes! Love Lindsey xxx

Understanding Hay Fever: Symptoms and Natural RemediesHay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is an allergic response to airborne substances such as pollen, dust mites, or pet dander, which trigger symptoms similar to those of a cold.
Understanding the symptoms and exploring natural remedies can help manage this condition effectively.
Symptoms of Hay Fever The symptoms of hay fever can vary in intensity and may include: - Sneezing: Frequent and uncontrollable sneezing is often one of the first signs.
- Runny or Stuffy
Nose: Nasal congestion or a runny nose is common, leading to discomfort.
- Itchy Eyes, Mouth, or Skin: Itching is a hallmark of hay fever, affecting the eyes, throat, and skin.
- Watery Eyes: Excessive tearing or watery eyes can occur, often accompanied by redness.
- Coughing: Postnasal drip can lead to a
persistent cough.
- Fatigue: The constant battle with symptoms can lead to tiredness and fatigue.
- Headache: Sinus pressure and congestion may result in headaches.
- Loss of Smell or Taste: Severe congestion can affect the senses of smell and taste.
Natural Remedies to Ease Hay Fever Symptoms While over-the-counter medications are available, many prefer natural remedies to alleviate symptoms. Here are some effective options: - Nasal Irrigation: Using a saline solution to rinse the
nasal passages can help clear allergens and reduce congestion.
- Local Honey: Consuming local honey may help build a tolerance to local pollen, potentially reducing symptoms.
- Herbal Teas: Teas made from chamomile, ginger, or peppermint can soothe the throat and reduce inflammation.
- Steam Inhalation: Inhaling steam
from hot water can help relieve nasal congestion and soothe irritated airways.
- Essential Oils: Oils such as eucalyptus or lavender can be used in a diffuser to help clear nasal passages and promote relaxation.
- Vitamin C: This natural antihistamine can be found in citrus fruits, bell peppers, and broccoli, helping to reduce symptoms.
- Quercetin: Found in onions, apples, and berries, quercetin is a natural antihistamine that may help reduce allergic reactions.
- Butterbur: This herb has been shown to be effective in reducing nasal symptoms and is available in supplement form.
- Probiotics: Consuming probiotics can help balance the immune system and reduce the severity
of allergic reactions.
- Acupuncture: Some studies suggest that acupuncture may help reduce the symptoms of hay fever by promoting balance in the body.
Lifestyle Tips - Stay Indoor*: On high pollen days, try to stay indoors and keep windows closed.
- Use Air Purifiers: These can help reduce indoor allergens.
- Shower and Change Clothes: After
being outdoors, shower and change clothes to remove pollen.
- Keep Pets Clean: Regularly bathe pets to minimise dander.
By understanding the symptoms and exploring natural remedies, individuals with hay fever can find relief and improve their quality of life. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment, especially if symptoms
persist or worsen.
Sourcing Local Honey: - Local Farmers' Markets: Visit farmers' markets in Hertfordshire, where local beekeepers often sell their honey. Markets in towns like St Albans, Hitchin, and Hertford are good places to start.
- Online Directories: Websites like the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA)
have directories of local beekeepers and honey suppliers.
- Local Shops and Delis: Check out local health food stores, farm shops, and delicatessens in Hertfordshire, as they often stock local honey.
- Social Media and Community Groups: Join local Facebook groups or community forums where local producers often advertise their products.
- Etsy and Online Marketplaces: Some local beekeepers sell honey on platforms like Etsy, where you can search for sellers based in Hertfordshire.
