Hello There, Another Bank Holiday weekend is upon us. To remind you the Saturday classes run as normal at Monks Walk - with the Walkfit Class starting at 9.20am this week please. (as I have Celebrant duties later). Also Mondays online Mindfulness & Mobilisation session will be on Tuesday next week. Have you ever tried lawn bowls I wonder? It's certainly a more sedate form of activity but still with great physical and mental health benefits. Have a read of this weeks spotlight on this popular sport which appeals to all ages. There there is also an opportunity to try it for free at the WGC Bowls Club on Knightsfield this Sunday at a taster day for all the family. There is a review on the Welwyn Hatfield CRUK Race
for Life event last Sunday, where I once again took the warm up at this iconic and moving event. This weeks recipe is a tarragon coleslaw dish, an ideal side dish for summer salads and BBQ's
Have a great week and I'll see you online and in classes! Love Lindsey xxx

Bowls, often regarded as a leisurely pastime, is a sport that offers a wealth of physical and mental benefits. Whether played on a lush green lawn or indoors, this game is accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Let's explore how taking up bowls can enhance both your physical health and mental
well-being. Physical Benefits - Improved Flexibility and Balance: Bowls require players to bend, stretch, and maintain balance while delivering the bowl. Regular participation helps improve flexibility and strengthens muscles, particularly in the lower body and core. This can lead to better posture and reduced risk of falls, especially in older
adults.
- Cardiovascular Health: Although bowls may not be as intense as other sports, it still provides a moderate cardiovascular workout. Walking up and down the green, coupled with the physical effort of delivering bowls, increases heart rate and circulation, contributing to overall cardiovascular health.
- Enhanced Coordination and Precision: The game demands a high level
of hand-eye coordination and precision. Players must focus on delivering the bowl with the right weight and direction to reach the target. This constant practice enhances motor skills and coordination.
- Weight Management: Engaging in bowls regularly can aid in maintaining a healthy weight. The physical activity involved, combined with the social aspect of the game, encourages consistent participation, which can help burn calories and
improve overall fitness.
Mental Benefits - Stress Reduction: The serene environment of a bowling green, coupled with the focus required in the game, makes bowls an excellent stress reliever. The rhythmic nature of the game and the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors can help clear the mind and reduce anxiety.
- Cognitive Stimulation: Bowls is a strategic game that requires planning, concentration, and tactical thinking. Players must anticipate opponents' moves and adapt their strategy accordingly. This mental engagement keeps the brain active and sharp, potentially reducing the risk of cognitive decline.
- Social Interaction: One of the most significant benefits of bowls is the social aspect. It is a
community-oriented sport that encourages interaction and camaraderie among players. Building friendships and being part of a team can boost mood, reduce feelings of loneliness, and improve overall mental health.
- Boosted Self-Esteem and Confidence: Mastering skills and improving performance in bowls can lead to increased self-esteem and confidence. Achieving personal goals and receiving encouragement from teammates contribute to a
positive self-image and a sense of accomplishment.
Conclusion Bowls is more than just a game; it's a holistic activity that nurtures both body and mind. Whether you’re seeking to improve your physical fitness, sharpen your mental acuity, or simply enjoy a social pastime, bowls offers something for everyone. Embracing this sport can
lead to a healthier, happier lifestyle, making it a worthwhile pursuit for individuals of all ages. So, why not give it a try and experience the benefits for yourself?

Well it was a bit chilly ahead of the start of last Sunday's iconic CRUK Race for Life at Stanborough Lakes but nevertheless as important as ever for those taking part and the meaning behind it. The Pretty Muddy event had taken place the day before and Sunday heralded the main event. I was warmly welcomed back by the event team and radio presenter John Darin with whom I have worked with
previously at these events. There was a new feel to this years event with new branding and course layout. Following the warm up on stage I joined Lindsey Fitness member Kerry Tancock and a lovely first timer Jacqui, to take on the 5km distance ( there was also the option of a 3km and 10km distance). Kerry has taken part in this event every year for the past 10 years in memory of her sister whom she lost to breast
cancer. This year Kerry raised over £300.00 in sponsorship .Between them the 600 wonderful participants made up of men, women and children raised over £95.000 at this event last Sunday. The CRUK Race for Life season has just begun with events all over the country for the next few weeks. I shall be taking part again at the St Albans event in July with some Lindsey Fitness Running Club members - still time to sign up for these
fantastic , fundraising events.
