The Joy of Walking......... Hi-lighting this week Lindsey Fitness member Fiona Stracey. Fiona took early retirement last year and shares with us her impressive walking regime and renewed direction with her fitness.
" I think my love for walking really came into its own during the pandemic. No travel or face to face classes meant I needed to clear my head with a different form of exercise. I had previously started as a walker, progressing to running with the Lindsey Fitness Running Club. I have taken part in several running events over the years, including the CRUK Race for Life 5km and 10km
distances. However, walking has now became my go to exercise along with 3 of Lindsey's classes each week. I can generally get out walking 2 or 3 times per week weather depending. Clocking up anything from 8 to 20 miles every week. This stands me in good stead for my Virtual Marathon training of which I have completed two now. I found that I really enjoy revisiting some of the places I went to when growing up and indeed where I still
live. During the pandemic I even took friends with me, when we were allowed and it's continued since then. I have taken to researching the area's in and around Hertford and Ware and although I am not a tour guide I think it's important as well as interesting to get a feel for the history. On April 21st I will be powerwalking my 3rd Virtual London
Marathon. "My way on the day". So I've planned my route already and feel confident I will get my 3rd marathon medal before I turn 60" Just wonderful, if you would like to get started with a walking or indeed running regime then Lindsey Fitness Running Club is offering 4 weeks of FREE training for anyone entered leading up to the Welwyn Hatfield CRUK Race for Life
Weekend. It starts on Sunday 28th April for 4 weeks at 8.00 - 9.00am from Moneyhole Playing Fields Car Park....... Interested? Get family and friends involved, get entered and get in touch for 4 weeks of FREE training.
Cancer Research Race for Life 2024
No matter how cancer affects us, life is worth racing for. Enter Cancer Research UK's Race for Life and raise money for life-saving cancer research.
Lindsey Fitness has supported this event since it started more than 25 years ago. I have had the privilege of hosting the warm ups for all that time - only missing last year for my daughters wedding!
The Cancer Research UK Race for Life event in Welwyn Hatfield is a popular event that brings together individuals of all ages and fitness levels to raise money for cancer research. Participants can choose to walk, jog, or run either a 3km, 5km or 10km course, with the goal of raising funds to continue supporting groundbreaking research and lifesaving treatments for cancer
patients. The event takes place in the scenic location of Stanborough Lakes, providing participants with a beautiful backdrop for their fundraising efforts. Participants are encouraged to fundraise through sponsorship from friends, family, and colleagues
The atmosphere at the Race for Life event is one of unity and support....and fun!, Many participants coming together to honour loved ones affected by cancer and to show their commitment to finding a cure. The event often features emotional and inspiring stories from cancer survivors and their families, as well as music, entertainment, and refreshments to keep participants motivated and
energised. The good news is you don't have to be a runner! You can stroll, walk or jog and choose a distance of 3km, 5km or the 10km to suit you or get down with the kids with the Pretty Muddy Challenge! I urge you to get friends and family involved in this time honoured event as a way of working together to find a cure for Cancer.
