Hola!, just a quick newsletter from me in Spain this week. We spent a phenomenal day last Sunday in Barcelona supporting Gary's Son Stephen in his first full Ironman. I don't think I or anyone else could fully appreciate the mental and physical toll on Stephen and the hundreds of other participants taking part until witnessing the extremes of the 3 gruelling disciplines that make up this
awesome event.
A 2.4 mile swim starting at 8.30am took 1 hour 24 mins followed by a transition to a 112 cycle ride taking 6 hours and 3 minutes and a final transition to a 26.2 mile marathon run taking 4 hours 45 minutes. It was sheer determination of mindset following months of relentless training to be his best at all three that took him over the finish line in 12 hours 32 minutes and 12 secs. Failure was simply not an option. I just felt such immense pride for Stephen
along with the utmost respect for him and all the other competitors I watched that day.
Never a truer example of mind over matter to complete what he set out to do and a life lesson to us all.
