The end of January and a triumphant week of achievement...... the January resetters posted phenomenal, quite frankly life changing results (over 9 Stone lost!!!) and members of the Lindsey Fitness Running Club completed the traditional first official 10 Mile running event of the year, a pre cursor to the long run Marathon training. More on both later in this newsletter.
There was a very interesting item featured on the This Morning programme last week relating to diet and COVID - and how reassuring that it totally endorsed all that is recommended in Janet Thomson's Placebo Diet ethos and being delivered at Lindsey Fitness for nearly 4 years now.
Professor Tim Spectre was interviewed, and talked about the ZOE COVID-19 study (hi lighted in last weeks Newsletter) . This brilliant study with so many (including me) taking part means research that would normally take 5 years can be collated in just 5 days. Participants were asked to record their diet over 3 months - results revealed that diet is CRUCIAL in those getting COVID and the severity of symptoms during it and the long COVID symptoms that
ensue.
Focus should absolutely be on gut health which is crucial to our immune system. Gut health and therefore the immune system, is improved by high quality diet. The ZOE Study revealed that this was the difference between people getting long COVID or not and longer term immune problems.
Our diets should absolutely be plant based and that includes nuts, seeds and herbs so that we get all the vitamins and nutrients we need from the hundreds of powerful chemicals in good quality, natural foods.
Variety counts - we should aim to consume at least 30 different types of plant foods every week.
Fermented foods everyday are key - Kefir, Kombucha, Sauerkraut (pickled cabbage) Kimchi (Asian sauerkraut) - these are all powerful microbe enhancers.
Avoid ultra processed food - apparently there is more processed food available in the UK than anywhere else in Europe!
The study revealed that those eating lots of processed food are more likely to get COVID and long term symptoms compared to those eating a more plant based diet who had milder symptoms and were quicker to recover.
Reassurance then for those on board with the Colour Code System and Placebo Diet programmes that we are doing absolutely what we should be to be our best and healthiest version!
